Custom House. Savannah, May 30^th 1797. Sir. Your letter of the 11^th instant has been duly received, inclosing an Estimate of the pay and forage of the regular Troops in this State to 2^d of March, 1797, amounting to Thirteen thousand dollars, and informing me that the said sum, together with three hundred and eighty five dollars due to Cap^t [undecipherable] Nichol, has been remitted to the Supervisor of South Carolina, subject to my order. I have written to Colonel Gaither on this subject, and forwarded to him the four bundles of muster and pay rolls which were received with your letter. I have also written to M^r Stevens requesting that he will forward the money by three different Posts to this place, and shall obtain receipts from Cap^t Nichol as soon as his money can be conveyed to him.
