Treasury Department Comptrollers Office 29^th May 1797. — Sir, I now transmit, (in compliance with your request of the 25^th instant) a Certificate from the Register of the Treasury, by which it appears, that Joseph Whipple, Agent for erecting fortifications at Portsmouth in the state of New Hampshire, has been debited on the books of the Treasury, for a balance of Sixty four Dollars, and seventy four Cents, found due from him on a settlement made by you, of his Account for mounting Cannon. — It will therefore be [strikethrough: proper], that his account on the books of your Office, exhibiting the aforesaid balance of Sixty four Dollars and seventy four Cents to be due to the United States, should be closed; which you will be pleased to effect, by causing such entries to be made for that purpose, as the nature of the case, and the established forms, may render necessary. — I am Sir, very respectfully, Your Obed.^t Servant, David Rann[undecipherable] Pr.
