[undecipherable] Geo Gordon [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] Shafter [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] Commonwealth of } In the Mayor's Court John Shafter } George Gordon being duly sworn saith that towards the close of last summer he was writing in the counting house of W^m Uhlich being in Second Street Philadelphia [strikethrough: called him] Shafter the defendant into his room out and took him up into his [undecipherable] – that where he found [undecipherable] him to copy on the back of certain printed pieces of paper which he had lying on the table certain affidavits of which Shafter gave him the form that he did not explain to the deponent what his views or purposes were and the deponent having frequently before done small pieces of writing for him and being willing to oblige him [strikethrough: and the same] times suspecting no— harm did copy the same for him the papers being folded down and the lines ready ruled with [strikethrough: black] [undecipherable] And the deponents further saith that the [strikethrough: affidavit] on the back of the paper annexed purporting to be a power of attorney from William Cornelius — the affidavit or pretended affidavit on the back of the paper purporting to be a power of attorney from [undecipherable] Bragg and the [strikethrough: affidavit] or pretended affidavit on the back of the paper annexed purporting to be a power of attorney from Samuel Chapman were then and there severally written by this deponent at the instance and request of the said John Shafter from copies which he gave to this deponent to write from and in order to ascertain the powers or pretended powers of attorney referred to in his deposition they are now severally marked by the deponent with the initials of his name & signed by William Simmons & William Rawle [strikethrough: This deponent being [undecipherable]] he does not know This deponent being [undecipherable] saith whose hand writing is contained in the body of these several Instruments, but whether they were filled up as they now appear at the time this deponent drew the several affidavits this deponent can't say – as they were handed to this deponent in a folded State — Geo Gordon George Gordon being duly sworn declares that the Contents of the foregoing writing [strikethrough: are [undecipherable]] and that the said writing con- tains the whole of his knowledge concerning the matters to which it relates. — Witness my Hand 26.
