[Commonwealth v Christian Hubbell John Shannon] [Indictment in May Court –] Caspar Sulsan being examined saith the following. That he believes it was in the Month of September that the four letters of Attorney from the State of Georgia were brought to him by one Parcell, that his [wife?] was by & he knows she received them – About an [hour?] the depst received them John [Connor?] came to the house & asked the depst if he had received them – Hubbell was with Connor walked [five?] days and receive them [undecipherable] – The Depst Did not receive them but substituted Alexander Powers who got Warrants out of the Office against them & the Shaffer – That Shaffer told the Deponent he had received [undecipherable] Warrants for [undecipherable] [undecipherable] & gave the depst twenty Dollars – That Powers received Warrants for three [letters?] of Attorney & Shaffer said the fourth was returned to Hubbell & [undecipherable] Hubbell, & Shaffer had a great quarrel about it – That about a Month before this the depst had substituted Alexander Powers to receive Warrants under two Letters of Attorney the Shaffer told the Depst he had received only [undecipherable] – That the depst does not recollect substituting Alex Powers except at one other time when the Powers of Attorney appeared & depst [undecipherable] appeared at the Office – That was the first substitution to Alex Powers under the two letters of Attorney & the next substitution was under [four?] letters of Attorney as aforesaid by which [undecipherable] warrants were received – That the [four?] letters of Attorney have never [and?] are the [same?] refused to lay their Depst – in his Examination before the Mayor – That all the [same?] time he [saw?] the [undecipherable] he [saw?] the two Warrenburg Conners in which the depst had received two Certificates and [undecipherable] both to about twenty Dollars. [See?] that the depst was not then in Shannon – advanced this two Dollars for Connor said he was there out of pocket for Connor clearly – there to be found he refused [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] Connor came in a [few?] minutes after the depst went to Shannon – that Connor said something in private to Shannon then went [undecipherable] – then that after Connor said [undecipherable] to the depst standing, Shannon paid the deponent [undecipherable] ten Dollars at that [time?] – there was an amount of pocket then – [undecipherable] it – That then were this offices – the depst now out of this Office it seems twenty Dollars [undecipherable] for the balance [undecipherable] together to about two Dollars it may be more but was not the depst believes – he cannot be exact on him but he thinks it was upward of [five?] dollars – he is sure it was above [fifty?] [undecipherable]. These are the Certificates said in his examination before [undecipherable] the Mayor – [he?] has been advised by Shannon after which he [read?] the two Dollars as aforesaid – After Winnes was arrested [depst?] Hubbell in [from?] time [undecipherable] talking [undecipherable] to him [undecipherable] to him, to Shannon did not take a [undecipherable] who after he said to the depst that he would [undecipherable] him [undecipherable] & the Devil help [undecipherable] – I will give you money – let John Shaffer give you money – I will give you a [undecipherable] to hang you – the reason he said was because [undecipherable] John John Shaffer have the Warrants – I am [undecipherable] I now [undecipherable] if you will be taken [undecipherable] be [undecipherable] of him it would be the first time [undecipherable] he would get out of it as well as he [undecipherable] he said he had nothing to do with the [undecipherable] Winnes – [undecipherable] talked round [undecipherable] [undecipherable] after that I now saw Hubbell told [undecipherable] him in the [Better?] [undecipherable] Shannon – Hubbell [undecipherable] Shaffer was not together at the [undecipherable] [undecipherable] – nor do I see depst on Shaffer [undecipherable] Hubbell together after Winnes was [undecipherable] – That Hubbell all the time aforesaid [undecipherable] I told him of Constables [undecipherable] I aforesaid [undecipherable] why do you think at these times I don't [undecipherable] [undecipherable] you will be taken – I certainly [undecipherable] to bind [undecipherable] – That was all this conversation [undecipherable] passed between Hubbell [undecipherable] our till after I was in prison – That afternoon I wrote Shannon a little [undecipherable] him to assist me with money – I received no answer – Then John Shaffer come to me [undecipherable] dark at [undecipherable] town, he told me you must clear yourself this night – he gave me ten Dollars & I went next day to Rudy Island – That Hubbell never told this Deponent that he would kill or cause to be killed any person for [undecipherable] – That no one being with me in the [undecipherable] guaranteed – That he never should [undecipherable] say a word [undecipherable] [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] Shannon or in his life – That he never delivered any Warrants or [undecipherable] from the Office to Shannon [undecipherable] that he had substituted Shannon, whether Hubbell ever received any Warrants on Warrants he does not – That he cannot recollect the names or the [forms?] of [letters?] [undecipherable] Casper D.
