Alexander Thompson Corps of Artillerists & Engineers West Point New York Department of War Accountants Office May 20^th 1797 Sir I [undecipherable] wrote to you on the 27^th Ultimo enclosing your Account Current, as it was stated from documents in this Office. the preceding is a Copy of the letter. since which none have been [undecipherable] from you, I forward the duplicate lest the other may have miscarried, and beg leave to add that [we] are anxious to have as many Public Accounts settled and as early as possible from a late Resolution which passed the House of Representatives, directing me to furnish a Statement of all Unsettled amounts. [undecipherable] Accountants Office April 27^th 1797 Sir The Accountant wrote you the 24^th Feby last requesting you to forward the Receipt Roll of your Company up to 30^th Sep. 1794 for which you stand charged with One hundred Ninety seven dollars & Forty Cents the amount of said Roll since that date none of your letters have come to hand. In the absence of the Accountant, I herewith transmit you a statement of your Account Current, by which it appears there is due to the United States by you the sum of [strikethrough: Three] Three Hundred Ninety two dollars & fifty four Cents, which arises principally from the money paid you for the Recruiting Service and the aforesaid sum of One hundred Ninety seven dollars & forty cents. The charge of Twenty dollars made by you for a Witness attending the Supreme Court at New York on your behalf at present is suspended and will remain so untill a final settlement of your account takes place here this charge will be submitted to the Secretary of War with any explanation that you may deem necessary to make in the Interim, you will please on the receipt of this inform me as early as convenient the result of any examination which may take place with you on the account, and forward the remaining Vouchers that the same may be closed by refunding the balance to the Treasurer — The charge of Thirty six dollars [undecipherable]/100 paid deserters and for which you have no Receipts cannot be admitted I am Sir Your M.
