Head Quarters of the Army
Sir
My last letter to you was of the 3d Inst. since which I have received your letters of the 2d February 22d March —
I shall write to Genl Wilkinson on the subject of the Sub Paymasters accounts with a request to issue his orders for their delivery to you without delay for examination — in the accustomed mode — I could wish that Communications were more frequent between this place and you as I am so frequently at a loss for information, respecting the accounts of the Army.
I could now wish that you would lose no time in forwarding them by a safe conveyance, as I am called upon to lay before Congress a state of all the Paymasters & generally the accounts of the receivers of Public money to the end of the last year on the 1st Monday in January next. This you will readily conceive is an [underline: undertaking] of immense labour & difficulty, and that I shall want all the accounts arranged as early as possible.
I am &c.
