[David Henley Wm. D° [undecipherable]] I received two letters from Mr Jackson; in the one of the 10 February) he mentions his surprize that I had not forwarded any estimate or report of the expedition of Major Johnson in 1794 to the war Office. If you will look into my estimate for that Year, you will there find the two companies with the [Staff?] made up to $302.29 and that I have reported upon it, that they had crossed the Ten-:nessee, and went over the like. When I was at Nashville in 1795 Major Johnson by my desire related the particulars of the expedition, and I also got General Robertson to write, all which was forwarded to the war Office. I again send a copy of Major Johnsons report. In the other letter from that gentleman of the 17 February) he is again surprized, that I have not forwarded the estimate or report for the expedition to the Nickajack and Major Ore, which if you have recourse to the same Estimate, you will there find the nine Companies with the [Staff], that performed that service reported upon to the sum of $18,093.94. Examine the files in the War Office, and I believe you will find my letter to the honorable Secretary of War stating the circum-:stances of this expedition; and in comparing the estimate with with the accounts of the Money sent on that Year, you will find the sums amounting to those expe-:ditions was adopt by order of the then Secretary of War. I now inclose you a copy of that part of the estimate relative to those expeditions in 1794. I also inclose the estimate for services due the Militia of Mero district for 1796; for the Regulars; for Salaries; and for the contingencies of 1797. It was impossible for me to send on the estimate before; the sudden arrival of the troops, the uncertainty of their arrangement &c prevented it. The 28 February I forwarded part of my Abstracts for sums expended in my agency; and intended this post to have sent on the remainder, as far as you have the Vouch-:rs. I was called off to attend to the Commissioners that have arrived at Tellico for running the line, and could not prepare them. M^r Willis is with me and hope will continue till my accounts are all sent on, for it is Difficult to get assis-tance in this Country.
