My last letter to you was of the 8th Inst. enclosing your Account Current by which there appeared a Balance in favor of the United States of Five Hundred & fifty one dollars 100/100 to the Contents of which I beg leave particularly to refer you.
I have to inform you that the Secy of War has Issued his Warrant for Thirteen Thousand Dollars which it is deemed will be a sufficient sum to compleat the Pay & forage of the Regular Troops under your Command, five Months including the arrears of the Troop of Dragoons — so as to compleat all arrears to the 31st March 1797. agreeably to an Estimate on file in this Office. This sum is remitted to Daniel Stevens Esqr Supervisor Charleston, to be by him paid to the order of John Habersham Esqr Collector of the Customs at Savannah who is doing the duty of Agent of the War Department in place of Major Freeman; he will arrange the Business so as to have the money paid on the Pay and Muster Rolls properly authenticated, which you will direct to have compleated in the usual forms. As the greatest strictness should be observed in forming the Rolls with accuracy, you will please to be particular in your directions to the Officers forming them that no errors may take place. I shall write to Mr Habersham and Mr Stevens by this Post on the subject of the money and direct the former to give you immediate information on receipt thereof, that you may dispatch the Paymaster with the Pay and Muster Rolls properly authenticated to receive the amount from him, I forward by this Post Blank Pay & Muster Rolls to the care of Mr Habersham.
