I beg leave to inform you that the Secretary of War has deemed it proper to forward the Pay & Forage of the regular Troops to the 31^st March 1797 on Estimate a Copy of which is enclosed amounting to Thirteen Thousand dollars. this sum as well as Three Hundred & eighty five dollars due to Doc^r N.Y. Mi[—] has been remitted to Daniel Stevens Esq^r Supervisor Charleston S^t Carolina then to remain subject to your order. I have written to Col^o. Gaither to issue his orders for having the Troops Mustered and the Pay Rolls for which will be presented to you properly authenticated by the Pay Master and which you will be pleased to examine agreeably to your instructions from M^r Freeman and make the payment accordingly. You will pursue the most advantageous as well as expeditious plan for obtaining the money from M^r.
