Carolina Charleston 29^th Aug^t 1797 — I am happy that on a re-examination of my account for the quarter ending 31^st Dec^r 1796. the error of 39 [undecipherable] dollars has been rectified, and am now to acknowledge the receipt of that Sum from the Treasurer of the United States, as well as the Sum of Two hundred and twenty five Dollars, which last Sum, I have agreeably to your instructions paid to Augusta De Graffse Sub [undecipherable] at Charleston being for his compensation from [undecipherable] Jan^ry [undecipherable] 21^st March 1797. and I herewith enclose you his receipt therefor, and as I notified to you in my letter of [undecipherable] Lieu^t that as there appeared to be an error made in my Account for the quarter ending 31^st Dec^r 1796 on the examination on adjustment thereof, of 39 [undecipherable] Dollars, I submitted to you therein the propriety of deferring at that time the transmission of a Receipt for the 164 [undecipherable] Dollars — until the error was rectified and the whole Sum came to hand, I now therefore herewith enclose you my Receipt for Two hundred and four Dollars and nine Cents, being for account of my Commission = on receiving and paying monies from the War department for the quarters ending 30^th September and 31^st December 1796. agreeably to Warrants N^o. 1910. and 2009. of the Secretary of War.
