Agreeably to your request I forward you a Copy of your last Account, which was suspended for want of knowing where you received the Five Hundred Dollars you Credit and the want of the signature of the party to the enclosed Receipt which you will obtain and forward it together with an explanation of the before mentioned Five Hundred Dollars. Thompson Accountants Office of the Artillerists & Engineers April 27^th 1797 West Point Sir [Duplicate sent him May 20 as also another letter on the same subject - see page 65 -] The Accountant wrote you the 24^th February last requesting you to forward the Receipt Roll of your Company up to 30^th September 1794 for which you stand [undecipherable] with One Hundred Ninety seven Dollars [undecipherable] the amount of said Roll, since that date none of your Letters have come to hand. In the absence of the Accountant; herewith transmit you a Statement of your Account Current by which it appears there is due to the United States by you the sum of Three Hundred Ninety two Dollars and fifty four Cents which arises principally from the money paid you for the Recruiting Service and the aforesaid Roll of One hundred Ninety seven Dollars and forty Cents. The charge of twenty Dollars made by you for expences of a Witness attending the Supreme Court of New York on your behalf at present is suspended and will remain so untill a final settlement of your account takes place here this charge will be submitted to the Secretary of War with any explanation that you may deem necessary to make in the Interim you will please on receipt of this inform me as early as convenient the result of any examination which may take place with you on the account and forward the remaining Vouchers that the same may be closed by refunding the balance to the Treasurer.
