Pittsburgh 25th April 1797
I enclose my estimate for the months of March, April and May for the posts dependent on Fort Washington and Detroit — I have also enclosed to Samuel Hodgdon Esq.r a Copy of it, & appointed him my agent by a power of Attorney of this date, to receive money from the United States treasury, & to pay any bills as I may have occasion to draw. —
On the 7th instant I drew on you ten Bills for one thousand Dollars each, in favour of [undecipherable] Jones, Numbered from 77 to 86 inclusive — These bills I have remitted to Kentucky, to Purchase Cavalry horses agreeable to the directions of y.e Commander in Chief — This sum is included in the estimate which I now enclose —
This estimate which I now forwarded [undecipherable] is exclusive Expenditures that will not take place till some June, which will consequently lessen the estimate for that month — The estimates for the Next Quarter will be much lower as many Reductions will take place in the departments —
and the Troops by that time will become paid. —
I have the honour to be Sir
with Great Respect your
Humble Servant
