In absence of the Accountant on a Journey to New York, I have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 18th Inst. enclosing the Account and Receipts for payments made by you to the Soldiers indebted by the late Capt Gamble. The Balance of money remaining in your hands you will continue to hold for the Claimant. The amount forwarded was not entered to your debit on the Books of this Office but was considered as a private transaction between yourself and the executors The vouchers therefore forwarded will be held subject to their order.

I received your letter of the 11th Inst. enclosing Capt Samuel Nicholsons rect. for Drs 334. 20 and W. Smiths — [undecipherable] order and on % of John Bryant Dept. Comr of Military Stores at Springfield 288. 37 Amounting to Drs 622. 57 for which sum will be passed to your Credit on the Books of this Office.
You will receive from the Treasurer of the United States the sum of one hundred & twenty dollars which you will please to pay to the said John Bryant at Springfield being for his Compensation from 1st Sept to 31 March 1797 and take
