Sir
Lieut John Lovele arrived a few days ago that put into my hands the 5000 Dollers mentioned your letter of the 31st ulto for which I have signed duplicate receipts, that money I am applying as you have directed Viz to pay the Troops of the upper posts for November & December 1796 and for January February & March 1797
I have herewith enclosed an Estimate of Pay and Forage of the Troops now stationed at the upper posts for the Months before mentioned — The amount $755 100 Dollars by which you will see that the sum in hand is insufficient to complete the five Months Pay. You will also find enclosed an Estimate of Pay and Forage for April 1797 the amount 704 80 Cents, being pay of Captains Defele & Turner's Company only Col: Butler & Captain Roy's Bids being under orders to descend the Ohio consequently will not be paid at this post for April
