Pittsburg 14^th April 1797 I have received your letter of the 7^th instant together with the Packet of News Papers &letters accompanying, both of which the necessary attention shall be paid. I have this day transmitted to you under cover to the Secretary of War three Packets V^iz N^o 1 Containing Vouchers of the Treasury of War, three Packets V^iz N^o 1 Containing Vouchers of June — May & June 1796 accompanied by monthly abstracts Inspected the return sent to the War Office might then come into your hands and by that means have saved me the labor (which is very considerable) of making out another return. I have however endeavoured to send you a duplicate of it by next post. Have had an Enquiry made at Morgantown respecting powder and lead said to be in possession of Col^o M^cClery, by whose report it appears that he sold a part of the Cannon and that the Barrel on which the remainder of it was deposited was broken and upon the whole of it carried off, he says by persons unknown to him, and that he has never reported only 780 lbs of Gun Lead which he has delivered to the order of the Secretary of War only. In a former letter requested you to send forward Blanks proper for drawing Tackles and I have now again to repeat my request as they are greatly wanted both at this post. Franklin & Camp & Presque Isle. I am certain that 10 doz^en of the Mesures & Jars being sent the blanks may be made here by which a saving may be made in transportation. The first time you take a walk up Market Street I desire to call on William Heafly knowing him— to send a Quarter of Sherry Wine such as Col^r Butler & got of him, but your own which you will be pleased to be so obliging as to have forwarded to me by a careful Hand. On the 12^th instant I drew on you in favor of Robert Sampson at 5 days sight for 500 dollars In Favor of W^m Rowland at 8 days sight [strikethrough: Butler] for 850 dollars which be pleased to pay. Col^t set off for Carlisle on Wednesday last, on his departure he desired me to retain all letters addressed to him until his return.
