S I R,
I HAVE this morning, with attention, perused letters from Governor Gayoso mentioning a message fr General Wayne to Baron Caromdelet, General in Ch of this province, to know when it would be conveni to him to have the posts evacuated; I could not know anticipate the answer to General Wayne's message, on my arrival at Fort Masfac, was informed by the co manding officer at that place that the posts were read to be evacuated. Agreeably to my orders, and in con quence of this information I am now coming forward w my detachment for the purpose of taking posfession of t lowest post on the Mifsippi, the Natchez post.
It is my wish, as well as that of the United States, promote harmony and a friendly exchange of go offices between the United States and the subjects of most Catholic Majesty.
