Capt Henry DeButts stands charged on the Books of this Office with Five hundred Dollars received for Contingent Expenses of the War Department, on application to Capt DeButts to account for the same, I received for answer, that he has rendered the necessary Vouchers to you for the expenditure thereof. I have therefore to request you will send me a Copy of your settlement with him for the same.

I received your letter of the 1st inst. enclosing the receipt roll of your Detatchment to 31st January 1797 and Muster & Pay Rolls for February & March.
The Receipt Roll has been examined, from which I have deducted the pay of John Athey, deceased, which was received by Serjt Housen and which must be refunded to you. The pay of a deceased Soldier can only be paid at this Office to the legal representative of the deceased. The amount of the Receipt Roll being 1000 [undecipherable] dollars will be passed to your Credit on the Books of this Office. The Pay Roll for February and March has also been examined amounting to Seven hundred and fifteen dollars [undecipherable] including 4 dollars due to Joseph [undecipherable] fer Bounty, the pay of Isaac Davis for August & September and Francis Holly for October and November 1796.
