I received your letter of the 1st ultimo enclosing your Vr for Pay & Subsistence, and for subsisting your Waiter, Sir Ramsay for March 1797.
The charge for Subsisting your Waiter cannot be paid from this Department agreeably to a direction from the Secretary of War, but the Soldier must draw his ration in kind, agreeably to [undecipherable] from the Contractor.
I have therefore deducted the same from your account leaving the sum of Fifty three dollars and ninety five Cents which you will receive from Jonathan Jackson Esquire, Supervisor: Boston, on giving him duplicate Receipts for the same. Samrl
