The charge for Subsisting your Waiter cannot be paid from this Department, agreeably to a direction from the Secretary of War, but the Soldier must draw his ration in kind, agreeably to [undecipherable] from the Contractor. I have therefore deducted the same from your account leaving the sum of Fifty three dollars and Ninety five Cents which you will receive from Jonathan Jackson Esquire, Supervisor Boston, on giving him duplicate Receipts for the same.
