Wolcott] Treasury Department April 7^th 1797 Sir Since writing to you on the 29^th Ultimo, duplicate whereof you will receive by this conveyance, I have received your several letters of the 9^th. & 28^th of February and 14^th of last Month, with the enclosures therein mentioned. It is conceived that the Contract with Crozier & McCarry is very objectionable, not only on account of the price of the Ration, which is far beyond any thing heretofore demanded [strikethrough: for supplies] in Tennessee — but because it extends to other parts of the State not authorised by my letter of the 23^d of November 1796 — in which you were pointedly confined to the making a Contract for Supplying the Troops intended to be Stationed at Telico Block House — You will therefore inform Crozier & McCarry, that the subject was not properly understood at the time of making the Contract, and consequently that no Supplies will be required from them excepting for the Post of Telico — The fact is, that the Troops now under marching orders for Tennessee were provided for under the Contract with Col^o James O'Hara for the year 1796 — and are also included in the Contract entered into with that Gentleman for the present year — I shall conclude with requesting that you will take immediate measures for putting this business on a proper footing and that you will consider all the Troops now Stationed [strikethrough: or to be stationed] in Tennessee (those at Telico only excepted) as provided for under the Contract with Col^o O'Hara. — I am with consideration Sir .
