Tempy. P. M. West Point March 25th 1797
Sir
I received your letter of the 16th Inst. with the Muster & Pay Roll for the Month of February of the Artillirists and Engineers at West Point which will be placed under examination shortly, and the result communicated to you. As to Dr.Draneys pay for superintending the artificers I cannot conceive what he can have to do on that score as Mr.Fleming informs me that there are few, if any, of the Artificers who work at their occupation for the Public and that Blacksmiths who have heretofore been working are directed by a Man of that profession by the name of Hughs @ 10/ȼ p day. I will however suspend a decision for the present, and inform you when it takes place. I am &c.
