Pittsburg 24. March 1797. Sir Your letter of the 17. instant is received together with the Packet of News Papers &c. I shall endeavor to obtain the necessary information respecting the Powder and Lead at Morgantown as early as posible as early as posible and communicate it to you. I have this day addressed to you under Cover to the Secretary of War three Packets containing Vouchers of Issues of Provision at Presque'isle from 1^st of August to last of December 1795 inclusive. And this letter you will find accompanied by a Return of Provision received and Issued at Presque'isle & Le Boeuf from the commencement of those posts under the Authority of the United States in July 1795 to June 1796 inclusive. I hope the Secretary of War has found [strikethrough: leisure] time to decide on the Merits of my Claim of Compensation for former Services. If he continues to delay this Business I shall consider myself treated with neglect by the Secretary of War. I am much indebted to you for your attention to that Business and have to beg of you at a proper time to mention to Colonel Pickering that notwithstanding his Statement of my Services my claim is hitherto neglected.
