inform you that Ten thousand Dollars you are to deliver to Caleb Swan P.M.G. on account of the Pay of the Army, the remaining Twenty thousand dollars are intended for five months pay of the Troops ordered to march to the Southward — and is to be delivered to the said Paymaster General or in his absence to the Paymaster of the fourth Regiments.
I have accordingly given directions to them individually how to apply that sum, and to furnish me with the necessary receipts to exhonorate you from the charge on the Books of this Office — One of those receipts as well as that for the delivery of the Ten thousand Dollars you will be pleased to forward to the Office accordingly.
I beg leave to trouble you with the enclosed letters & accompanying packages which I request you will be pleased to deliver to the respective Officers to whom they direct themselves — wishing you a pleasant journey.

The bearer of this Brig Genl James Wilkinson has charge of the sum of Twenty thousand dollars intended for five Months Pay of the fourth Regiment & such other of the Troops as accompany that Regiment to the Southward. This sum in the event of your absence he is to deliver to the Paymaster of the fourth Regiment taking his receipts to be accountable for the Same — I have accordingly furnished the Paymaster with the necessary instructions — a Copy of which I herewith
