D'Etroit 22^d March 1797 Sir I have the pleasure to acknowledge the receipt of your several letters of the 9^th 16^th & 30^th of Dec^r 1796, and 10 January 1797, and the duplicates of those of the 16^th December and 10 January, and their several enclosures. In order to exhibit a clearer statement of the transactions of Captain De Butts while I lay sick I have enclosed a sketch of an account the result of which will shew that Captain De Butts shall stand charged with the amount of his drafts on you, and deducted by the same sum paid into my hands: That I then become charged with the same sum, and also a further sum which he paid to me making in all $131 dollars for which I drew in favor of the said De Butts bills N^o 116. 117 & 118. amounting to $131 dollars & am of course to be charged with it accordingly— I have not yet dared to [undecipherable] my Accounts & vouchers nor those of M^r Vance, and I applaud myself for it which have been laying ready all [strikethrough: winter] they shall go by the first safe Conveyance. I shall exert my best endeavours to obtain the accounts and vouchers of the accountable Officers and send them forward as usual. You have probably by this time received my letter of the 1^st February last inclosing the letters of Lieu^t Hyde and Captain Dawler wherein they demur giving in their Accounts: upon this subject you know best how to proceed Captain Turner has not yet arrived here nor have I heard where he is, or what has become of him, it has been rumoured here that he is gone back to Philadelphia. The arrival of an express at this place yesterday by the way of F^t Wayne who brought me your several letters, is the first communication we have had from Philadelphia since the 2^d of November 1796.
