Regarding the proving of the 24 pounders at Hope Furnace
Document 1797The 24 pounders for the USS Constitution cast at Hope Furnace are ready for proving. Shot has been ordered to Providence Rhode Island. Mr. Brown is to notify when Nicholson's attendance required. Nicholson is to go to Hope Furnace in Pennsylvania to receive the cannon. In conjunction with Captain Pierce, he is to examine and pass receipts for each of the cannon. Copies of instructions to Captain Pierce and Mr. DaCosta enclosed. While at Hope Furnace, take measures to transport cannon to Boston; give directions for construction of carriages.
