Sir
I received your letter of the 14th Inst. and now enclose you an account of retained Bounty due to Samuel Eaton, which I received from Colo. Rochefontaine — If you conceive the money to be due him you will pay it out of any unappropriated monies in your hands. Dr. Dayton who inlisted the man has not yet settled his recruiting acct. I therefore cannot check the Balce due him. but if he has never received it since his joining at West Point. he no doubt is entitled to it.

Sir
I received your letter of the 15th Inst. enclosing a Statement of Balance due to David Clifford late a private in Capt. Nichols Company, and a power of Attorney from the Father of the deceased for the recovery of the sum due him.
As the Soldier is returned on a list of Balances in this office for which a seperate warrant is issued, it will therefore be necessary for you to authorize some person to receive the same here as it would be contrary to the rules of Office to pay it in any other mode than the one before mentioned.
