Sir
The money transmitted for the pay of the Wholston Post Canvpon has been until now in my hands, having never before been called for by Lieutenant Grumps although there been at the Fort and desired the more to inform him that I had it and had also taken many occasions of sending to him or running it. You are I presume apprized that Captain [strikethrough: Morris has been] absent the whole time. I thought it probable that the Lieutenant had wrote to him for authority to receive the money, and I at length advised him to write to take that step if he had not already done it; but he has this day applied for it without any procuration from the Captain and I have not thought it proper to withhold his own pay — that of the men I have constantly sent him Two Hundred and Fifty some I thus had have reserved the remaining Forty two which Lieutenant Grumps says the Captain Wishes to pay for Mr Morris, of which as that Gentleman
is according to the Lieutenants information in Philadelphia you can perhaps make it convenient to have him informed in order that he may draw upon me for it —
I am Sir
Your most Obedient Servant,
