Carolina February 23^d 1797 Sir I received your letter of the 2^d Ultimo with its enclosures — The Receipt roll of your Detachment for Sep^t. and October 1796 amounting to four hun=dered & thirty six dollars has been examined and will be passed to your credit on the Books of this Office. — The Pay Roll for November and December 1796 has also been examined, and after deducting the pay of Frederick Dalcho, Surgeons Mate, Michael Upton private and Lawrence Courtney deceased agreeably to the remarks on the enclosed Receipt Roll amounts to seven hundred & Eight Dollars, which sum you will receive from Daniel Stephens Esq^r. Supervisor at Charleston on giving him duplicate Receipts as usual. Your account current to the 31^st December 1796 has been examined and found right; leaving a balance due the United States of 64 ¹⁰⁰/_oo dollars. — The pay said to be due Jabez Beaman for his former Services, agreeably to a Certificate of Cap^t.
