I received your letter of the 2d Ultimo with its enclosures — The Receipt roll of your Detachment for Sept. and October 1796 amounting to four hun=dered & thirty six dollars has been examined and will be passed to your credit on the Books of this Office. —
The Pay Roll for November and December 1796 has also been examined, and after deducting the pay of Frederick Dalcho, Surgeons Mate, Michael Upton private and Lawrence Courtney deceased agreeably to the remarks on the enclosed Receipt Roll amounts to seven hundred & Eight Dollars, which sum you will receive from Daniel Stephens Esqr. Supervisor at Charleston on giving him duplicate Receipts as usual.
Your account current to the 31st December 1796 has been examined and found right; leaving a balance due the United States of 64 100/oo dollars. —
The pay said to be due Jabez Beaman for his former Services, agreeably to a Certificate of Capt. Eaton, is suspended untill information is recd. on that head from him — I am &c.
