The Honourable Dep^ty Lt Foster "in Congress" Department of War Accountants Office Mar 1^st 1797 Sir On examination of the claims of the following Officers late in the 15^th Reg^t Massachusetts, for bin who have empowered you; I find by the Muster Rolls, that Captain John Pierce and Ensign Joseph Pierce [underline: were discharged on the 31^st of December 1780]; and that Lieut^t John Mowers was mustered in a Muster Roll of the 5^th of April 1781 as having been furloughed on the 15^th of Dec^r 1780 for Seventy Days, after which period he does not appear to have been mustered. There is no evidence in this Office of either of the above Officers having been deranged so as to entitle them to Lances. I am &c.
