Enclosed I forward two Claims received from Colo Rochyfontaines for Balce of Bounty due to Samuel Bell & Isaac Shafford. the former you will pay out of any unappropriated monies in your hands and take his Rect on the Acct. the latter Acct will also be paid by you after you are informed whether the United States have been at any expence in apprehending him in which case such expence is to be deducted from his bounty & the balce if any to be paid to him taking his Receipt in the usual mode — I have directed that in the Muster Roll for February as well as all subsequent musters, it be noted by the proper Officers opposite the Mens Names who are made up as artificers the trade or occupation they severally profess and a certificate to accompany the Muster Roll that they were severally employed at their respective trades for the time charged in the service of the United States. this is to be complied with before the Muster Rolls are forwarded to this Office. —
