War] [Answord March 1^st 1797] [William Simmons — Penney Accountant — Philadelphia] To M^r Ebenezer Wood who Served during the American war in the Lee Corps of Horse, has Applied to Me to Assist him to Obtain Certain Monies from the United States — his Claim is founded as he States upon the following Principal — it was one of the conditions of the Inlistment, that at the Expiration of the war, the Soldier Should have his Horse and Accoutrements, or be paid for the Same — his horse was Sold for 25 Guineas — the Sale as he understood, was by the Order of the General, but he Never Reciev'd a farthing — there was a Bounty of 100 dollars 20 of which he Reciev'd, but no more; of Course a Ballance of 80 is his due of this be the fact — Also his Proportion of the Booty Captured in [Oct. 31. 1777] the back part, for Galphing &, Congaree, Thompson's [undecipherable], as well as Back Clothing — all of which he has been lately informed, has been paid to those Who have Applied in the Proper Situation with himself. his Distress wont Oblege him to Seek this Right.
