Pittsburg 10^th February 1797. Sir Your letter of the 3^d instant, accompanied by a Packet of News Papers, is come to hand. It is unfortunate that the last years appropriation is exhausted as I am under the necessity of calling on you for a remittance to enable me to discharge the accounts against the department up to the end of the year 1796. On the 7.^th instant the Indian Chiefs with their Interpreters and attendants embarked in charge of Cap^t. Britt for Fort Washington. You have not yet informed me of your having completed the Business of the lots of Fort LeBœuf, nor of your having succeeded with the Secretary of War in my claim of compensation for extra services. This Moment M^r George W. M^cElroy has requested a draft for 1000 Dollars he having that sum to remit to Philadelphia and it being in dollars.
