Letter to you of the 6th Inst: which will be handed you by Lieut [undecipherable] Wright who will leave Troop shortly — Enclosed you have a list of charges taken from the Books of this Office, against Capt. John Wade who marched Capt. Gibson's Men to your place, exclusive of those charges, there are two received from C. Swan Pay Master to the Troops U.States since Capt. Wade's departure, for monies received which he omitted crediting in his settlement at this Office. I have written to Capt. Wade on the subject in the enclosed letter, which after perusing you will seal and deliver to him, the amount Two Hundred Ninety Dollars 7/100 he is immediately to refund to you for which you will give him your duplicate receipts —
The necessity of this measure will no doubt appear sufficiently obvious to him, when he reflects that his accounts were settled on his attestation, avoiding the necessary form of a Certificate from the Pay Master — You will please inform me as soon as circumstances will admit of the probability of receiving the money, if it is refused a proper representation may be made to prevent such omissions in future

I have just received your Letter of the 15th December & duplicates of yours of 20 Nov last with their accompaniments, in time to acknowledge them by this days post. —
I hope before you leave the army, you will make a settlement with all the Officers who have money to account for, the necessity of this measure is great from the confusion that will naturally take place when you leave them, your utmost exertions no doubt will fail in some instances, but if the Officers should be called upon by a General order I think it would have the necessary effect.
I am sorry that Col Turner from the [undecipherable: Barrackses?] remains still at Pittsburgh with the money for the pay of the army owing to the Ice in the River, but he expects to effect a descent shortly from the continued rains for some days previous to the date of his letter, & I hope he has arrived with you before this comes to hand — although it may appear extraordinary that the Officers should complain on account of the arrears of pay [undecipherable] them it nevertheless is the case, they not only complain for themselves but also for those remaining with the army, from the [partiality?] with which they say has been shewn parts of the Army for receiving pay & others having received no pay for 12 to 15 Months, not being acquainted with the circumstances which occasioned this I of course could not shew the propriety thereof and it remains yet to be accounted for —
If however you should be implicated at any time in the complaints officially, you may rely of having immediate notice from me nothing has yet been communicated to Congress and as the Session is shortly to expire I doubt whether any thing of the kind will take place —
Your accounts I am pleased to find are in readiness to be forwarded to this Office. I see a safe opportunity will shortly offer — Capt John [undecipherable: Dowar?] as well as Lieut Dixon have both settled their accounts the former without noticing the money received from Capt [undecipherable: Reid?] and has also charged
