Sir Inclose
By an abstract of charges received from Caleb Swan Esqr I find you received Two Hundred and Twenty Six Dollars from the late Capt Reiz for the recruiting service, which you have omitted crediting in your last settlement here, and in your settlement of Subsistence, you have charged from the first of April 1796 and it appears he has paid you to the 30th June 1796.—
These omissions you must be well aware places the Accounts in this Office in a deranged situation, not to say any thing of the serious consequences which might follow to an Officer from such omissions — I have therefore to request that you will without delay refund those Monies to David Henly Esqr Agent for the War Department and take his receipts therefor one of which you will immediately transmit to this Office that the amount may be entered to the Credit of your account.
The Sums to be refunded are as follows
Received from Capt Reiz ——— 226
