I received your letter of the 2d Inst and agreeably to your request inclose you your Account of Pay and Subsistence transmitted by your letter of the 6th of Augt last — with respect to the sentiments contained in your letter I only remark that they are as unright as they are illiberal as may be evinced by my former communication to you on the subject of your amend, in which I proposed to do you all the Justice that the Law and usage of the Office would authorize, and to make you such payment as to other Officers, who were satisfied, the principle I am determined not to aviate from & I am not guided by terms. —
