I enclose, for your consideration and orders, extracts of two letters from Colonel Gaither of the 29^th September and November 1796 relative to Captain Eaton, and the copy of a letter from Captain Eaton of [underline: the 14^th September ult^o to Colonel Gaither.] Also, copy of a letter to the [underline: tary of War from Captain Eaton dated 26^th December 1796, with a list of] charges against Colonel Gaither. Should these charges appear to merit an examination, by a military tribunal, still it may be proper to suspend the measure for the present, that officer being engaged in making important changes in the position of the troops, on the frontiers of Georgia.
