Pittsburg 3^d February 1797 Sir Your favor of the 27^th ultimo is come to hand together with the Packet of News Papers. Our River is again becoming navigable and I shall endeavour to improve my time in shipping off all the Stores now on Hand destined for the other Posts in order that I may have a few weeks to spare in which to make you a visit. I have this day drawn on you in favor of John Wilkins; for 1000 dollars at 8 days sight which be pleased to pay & charge as usual. We have had the Misfortune to have lost our principle Friend & Chief of the Shawnees Indians. At 9 oClock A. M. on the 2^d inst. after a few days illness he breathed his last greatly lamented by the other Indians & indeed by all others who had any knowledge of him. I am, Sir, your Ob. Ser.
