[Caleb Swan Rec^d 12^th May Ans^d 19] Detroit 2^d February 1797 Sir Having waited a sufficient time, I write a circular letter on the 1^st of last month to the several Paymasters requesting them to render their several Accounts and refer them to be forwarded to your Office for which a copy of which together with the answer of James Ryan D.W. to the Regiment and of Captain Dennis late Pay master of the Artillery herewithin London to you for your consideration without any further argument of the subject. As we are entirely excluded from any communication with the Atlantic States on account of the depth of Snow and excessive cold weather I have sent this by the Merchants express who goes once every Winter from here to lower Canada and have directed it to the care of Captain Bumpas Niagara from whence to use forward to you. I am very anxious for the arrival of Cap. Turner and the money, but do not now impose him there again, it was a bad [undecipherable: asperation] to have sent here him at this before he sett off.
