John Hopkins Esq^r Accountants Office Commissioner of Loans January 27^th 1797 Virginia Sir You stand charged on the Books of this Office under date of 5^th Octo: 1790 with the sum of Twenty two thousand two Hundred, thirteen Dollars and fifty one Cents being the amount transmitted you by the direction of the Secretary of the Treasury for the purpose of discharging the arrears of pay & subsistence due to the Commissioned, Non Commissioned Officers and privates of the Virgia line of the late army — your receipt on file— The length of time elapsed since you received this sum, makes it highly necessary that your accounts for the disbursements thereof should be rendered and settled. I have therefore to request that you will as early as convenient transmit them to this Office for that purpose, that the proper Account may be entered on the Books of this Office — I am &c.
