Sir, Treasury Department Comptroller's Office January 26^th 1797. Agreeably to the request expressed in your letter of the 23^d instant, I now transmit enclosed a Certificate from the Register, by which it appears that Samuel Hodgdon has been credited on the books of the Treasury. For the sum of one thousand Dollars being part of monies advanced to him on account of the Quarter Master Department and which (with further sums) was paid over to John Wilkins Quarter Master General. and that out of the sums so rec'd by the Q^r master General, he has paid, to Captain John Heth for conducting Indians to Philadelphia the said Sum of one thousand dollars, the [undecipherable] for the expenditure of which have been exhibited to you for liquidation.
