I received your letter of the 19th inst. enclosing a due Bill of Captain Gambles in favor of Dennis Slean for Balance of Bounty. On examination of the sum paid on the due Bill, the Indorsement appears to have been Five Dollars paid & it has been altered to Two Dollars.
I recollect the Claimant applying to this Office, & I refused him any Satisfaction, as the alteration appeared obvious with an Intention of fraud. It will however with the other Claims be laid before the Administrator
