Pittsburg 13th January 1797 Sir I have received your letters of the 6th instant . . I shall pay attention to these Contents. The articles you mention shall be furnished to the Indian Chiefs, they are now in very comfortable Quarters &with which they are perfectly satisfied. At their Arrival Irequested the Interpreters not to indulge the Indians in strong drink & Ihave not yet seen any of them intoxicated. Captain Shaumbourgh left this place on the 8th instant for Fort [partial char.] Washington by land . Your letter addressed to him covering Commissions for two Indian Chiefs agreeable to direction I have opened Ishall hand to these chiefs their Commissions immediately after the departure of the post.
