Pittsburg 8th December 1797
[6/2]
In the evening of the 2d instant the detachment under the Command of Major Freeman composed of [undecipherable] Pierce & Cap. [undecipherable] Companies arrived at this post, at which time the Navigation of the Ohio was shut up by Ice & probably will continue so during this next Month. Immediately on the arrival of the Troops I informed the Officers of your Orders to me to have them mustered & paid. They have not yet completed their Rolls, but expect them this day. I am therefore not yet able to ascertain the amount that may be due the Detachment. I shall therefore pay the Detachment. Transmit the Rolls to the Accountant & same time draw on you Sir for the amount.
The Commander in Chief arrived at this place yester[day from the Westward. —
