Fort at Whetstone Point Jan^y 6 1797 Sir Enclosed I transmit to you the Receipt Rolls, for the payments made to a part of my Company for the months of October and November, as also the muster and pay Roll of the whole for the month of December. — You will observe Alexander for whom pay was drawn is not included in the Receipt Rolls, owing as I have been informed to his having been detained in Philad^a by the civil authority. — Should this be the case, I could wish the Recruiting officer at Philad. or some other person might interest himself to obtain his release and send him forward to me. — I have omitted likewise to pay Robert Dean confined for Desertion. — Supposing the reward for apprehending him might be claimed, and that it would be proper it should be discharged from his pay, was my inducement for withholding it — Another consideration, that he is totally worthless as a soldier, and ought to be discharged, not having done more than one tour of duty since he Joined the Regiment. — If I am in error in this, he can be paid up next payment.
