War Office January 2. 1797. Sir The Creek Chiefs will leave this City in a few days and return I hope satisfied with their reception and presents. It being probable however that some of the Chiefs who have staid at home may think those who visit the seat of Government are the best treated and be inclined from that circumstance to follow the same course oftener than would be proper or convenient, or get discontented on the sight of presents, which they have not shared in. I inclose you five hundred dollars to be disposed of in such manner as may obviate these effects, if on your arrival in the nation, you should find it necessary so to apply it or any part of it.
