Decr. 31. 1796
Sir
I recd. your letter of the 26th. Inst enclosing the Receipt of James Blakeslee for his Pay for October, which will balance the amount you received for that month, and will be entered on the books of this Office accordingly.
The Post Note you mention to have received from John Chester will meet with no difficulty in the payment, if forwarded to this City — the day & date being left Blank is an omission of the Bank and will be rectified & paid if the note is forwarded. — you may therefore have the note changed with you and assure the person of the Note's being paid on being presented to the Bank here. — The letter for Major Shaylor I forwarded to him by yesterday's Post. — The Western Mail yesterday brought the Melancholy news of the death of Major Genl. Wayne; he died after a short illness at Presque Isle.
