Lieut James Triplett Accountants Office Fort Norfolk, near Norfolk Dec. 21^st 1796 Virginia Sir I rec^d your letter of the 7^th inst enclosing the receipts of the men under your command for Sept. & Oct. 1796 amounting (with your own pay for same period) to Fifty two Dollars & ⁶²/₁₀₀. which sum together with the Twelve Dollars for bounty & premium for inlisting John Alexander, will be passed to your credit, on the Books of this Office. — The four Dollars you have paid to Alexander exclusive of the above sum is also passed to your Credit, & opposed to a sum of eight Dollars which remain in your hands, for the pay of your men to the 30^th April 1796. leaving a Balance due the United States on that head of four Dollars.
