Westpoint Dec^r 9^th 1798. Sir, I have had the honor to transmit to you a return of clothing wanted immediately for that part of the Corps remaining at Westpoint, the Season has become so inclement for 10 days past that the men are actually [undecipherable] for want of them — it consists in Sergeants' Coats vests, Overalls & Shirts — Privates' Vests, Overalls, Shirts, Socks, & Shoes & Musicians' Coats. I have requested that the clothing may be sent under the care of Lieut. Druary, but if he was not to return immediately, I would be obliged to you to let them be sent before him. Whenever there are some articles forwarded to the care of Mess.^rs Manning & Smith, I wish you would inform me of it, for in the hurry of business they are sometimes remaining in the Store, forgot. Captain Frye commanding at Governors Island, would at all times make it his business to call on the contractors, to remind them of it if you could drop a line to him whenever there is something forwarded here.
