[379] [Received from State Dep't [undecipherable] 24 [undecipherable], No. 40[undecipherable]] Pittsburg 9^th December 1796 Sir Your letter of the 2^d instant enclosing Twenty five Post Notes of one hundred dollars each is received together with a letter addressed to Doctor Brown by the packet of News papers. The last post arrives late on the [evening] of the 2^d [and] set off again in a few minutes before [I knew of its] arrival, consequently the receipt of your letters of the 24^th & 28^th [is] not acknowledged by Return of that post. You have, however, received two Packets which were sent to the Post Office early on the 2^d. [In] these Packets you will find cont[aining] [undecipherable] [Vouchers] of Provision at [undecipherable] during Months ending [undecipherable] accomp[anied] [undecipherable] of Provision a [undecipherable] [Reports] The relative Vouchers [must] be transmitted by next [Post] Yesterday I made a Draft on you in [favor] of Stevenson for four hundred dollars at eight days [sight] which be pleased to pay and charge as usual. Thomas Martin, Wagg[one]r arrived on the 7^th with [Hospital] Stores and being in [want] of [undecipherable] to enable him to return I have furnished him with 20 dollars — His Receipt for that sum enclosed and which you will please to place to my credit. I have this day transmitted to the Secretary of War a general Return of Ordnance Quarter Master & Hospital Stores and Cloathing on which the Receipts [Sues?] during six months will appear. A Similar Return accompanied by the Relative Vouchers I expect to transmit to you by next Post.
