My dear Sir, Your letter of the day of Election in Philad.^a did not reach till to night — Accept my thanks when I tell you that the Lodgings which you mention will not do for either in neighbourhood or price — besides the drawing room at two pair of Stairs — We should also consider ourselves as particularly fortunate in the accommodation they as expected — rented a family. In a few days I will find out some little parlour down Stairs & bedroom in the nice neighbourhood of [undecipherable] Square a fine. I admire the Poem you so kindly sent me though a poeter I am a cold admirer — We have nothing yet on Elections — one man is elected — but Whittle beat him in Carolina Sixty three votes It always appeared to me a nice point between P. & J. — & more so when I arrived at home a farm — this State so must divided — No effort however ought to be omitted let that will save of it — No man ever saved himself from drowning by instead of swimming the steps stroke & trusted to the tide.
